The overall look of the ground has greatly improved, with the re-development of both ends in the last couple of seasons. Both these ends, the Greene King (South) Stand and the North Stand, are similar in appearance and size, and dwarf the smaller stands, located on each side of the ground. Unusually, both ends have a larger upper tier than lower tier, with the South Stand having some spectacular floodlights perched on its roof. Both sides are much older stands. On one side, the fair sized Britannia Stand has a row of executive boxes running across its middle, while opposite is the Cobbold stand, the front of which is uncovered. This is now the smallest stand in the ground, is two tiered and also has executive boxes in the centre. There are now two statues of previous Ipswich and England managers at Portman Road. The one of World Cup winner Sir Alf Ramsay is on the corner between the Cobbold and North Stand, while Sir Bobby Robson's statue is placed behind the Cobbold stand in Portman Road.

Follow the A14 around Ipswich, until you see the turning for Ipswich (A137). Stay on this road and you will eventually see the ground on your left. Bill Leggate adds 'there is extremely limited on-street car parking around the ground. There are however three car parks in Portman Road with a total of about 800 spaces. Two are pay and display and one is pay on admission. Early arrival is recommended to ensure a space close to the ground. There also several town centre car parks within 10 minutes walk all of which are well sign posted'.

By Train
The ground is only a quarter of a mile away from Ipswich train station. You will see the ground as you come into the station. Ipswich is served by trains from London Liverpool Street and Peterborough. |
